10 Lies You’re Believing About Your Relationship With God (& The Truths That Replace Them)
I wrote these ten lies down, not so that you can be fed with them, but so you can read them knowing that what you are reading is in fact a lie. You may read something and go, “hey, I’ve actually been believing that and have never even given it a second thought to reconsider if it was true.” Underneath I rewrote the 10 truths. May this fill you with revelation, truth, hope and joy!
Here we go:
// LIES //
1. God is needy. He needs me more than I need Him. I always need to work for Him more than I can just receive from Him.
2. if I haven’t spent time with Him, I shouldn’t now, because He will just be mad with me. Better to avoid Him than go to Him now.
3. I have to make sure i’m spending the right amount of hours alone with God to deserve His presence.
4. If I’m not feeling His presence or hearing His voice. It means He is mad at me.
5. He only loves me because He loves everyone. He doesn’t love me as an individual. If I was the only person in the world, He wouldn’t of died for just me.
6. I am the exception to His grace & love. I am the exception to Truth.
7. My reasoning is smarter than what God has/had said. I should just wait for God to realise that what He said doesn’t make any sense.
8. God will change His mind. God has changed His mind.
9. I didn’t really hear Him speak (when you totally have.)
10. God’s schedule doesn’t work with mine. He is so inconvenient.
// TRUTHS //
1. He is always pouring His love out on me, no matter what I am doing. I get to work from love, rather than for love. He is my comforter and my provider. He is not needy. He is desperate for me to encounter Him every day.
2. If I haven’t spent time with Him, the best thing I can do is run straight to Him. He will meet me with love. That is the place I need to be. The devil tries to separate us from Jesus, by telling us we shouldn’t go to Him.
3. There’s nothing I can do to make Him love me more or less. It’s not about ticking boxes, it’s about being connected to His heart & what He is doing right now.
4. He is not mad at me. There are different seasons of experiences, I just get to experience Him in a different way in this season. He is growing me.
5. He loves me as me, by myself as the worst version of me. If it was just me on this Earth, God still would have sent His son & Jesus still would have died for me. Just me. Just you.
6. There is no such thing as the exception to what He has said. He is Truth. What He says is Truth. Full stop.
7. I can’t outsmart Him and that’s a very good thing. He is in control & takes care of every detail. Sonetimes I don’t understand, but I wasn’t created to understand, I was created to listen and trust.
8. God does not change His mind. He said it. I believe it.
9. Yes I did/do hear Him.
10. God’s timing is perfect!
