How To Read Your Bible & Love It.
The Bible is such an amazing gift to us, but so many struggle to understand it, receive from it and to just enjoy it. I want to change that. I do understand this feeling though, because I have been there myself. In fact, I imagine most people have. Let me tell you though, you do not want to stay in that place because there is so much you’re missing out on. It’s not at all about a religious perspective of ticking all the boxes to be a good Christian. It’s about having a perspective of “I want more of Jesus in my life.” He has given us this amazing book filled with His heart, never ending revelation, wisdom, solutions, stories & our family history. I don’t want us to go through life without the blessing, that the bible is! If you feel like you don’t have passion to read the Bible, or you just want more, then this is for you!
Here are some keys to LOVING your Bible and the words that fill the pages:
Understand the Bible as a whole story.
It’s a big fat love letter.
This was something that really really helped me when it came to the bible. Even though I always knew the Bible was all one story, I guess I just didn’t realise how much it was actually one story. Everyone is vital and connected. Every verse is God-breathed and is there for a purpose. It’s incredible when you’re reading about the story of Ruth and then realise that she is the Great-Grandmother of King David, who is the Great-Great Grandfather of Jesus. It changes the whole perspective of those people because you are seeing the fruit of decisions and God’s redemptive grace throughout history.
It begins with love, then there’s a fall, a separation, the King (Jesus) saves everyone out of extreme undeserved grace, He is in love with His bride and has fought to be with her, the battle is won (forever), everyone who believes, has a mission to gather the others and bring His kingdom to earth, it ends with a wedding and an eternal feast/party. See… It’s one big love letter. It’s captivating, mysterious, beautiful, thrilling, adventurous and we are the ones that are saved. We are His bride. Doesn’t that just make you want to read the bible, when suddenly you realise it’s actually written for you and is about His love for you!
“The more of the Bible you understand, the more you’ll enjoy reading it and the more you’ll realise there is to know.”
It’s an endless passionate pursuit for the More of Him! More of His heart!
The author.
“The Bible is the only book where the author is in love with the reader.”
The more we get to know Him, the more we will want to read the Bible. The Bible isn’t a book of old words, it’s pages are alive and breathing with encounter & revelation. To get to know Him, we need to spend time with Him. We need to fill ourselves with His words and His voice.
Ask Him to encounter you as you are reading the bible. Let God breathe His fresh revelation on you.
Seasons.
if you’re not enjoying it just keep going till you do. There is a level of discipline when it comes to reading the bible. Train yourself to read it when you don’t feel like it. Keep reading until something hits your heart. There will definitely be seasons though where you get more out of the bible than others. Just remover to be aware of seasons. Seasons don’t change the truth though. Just because things look different throughout seasons, doesn’t mean there is a different truth for them. Different seasons, same Truth.
Find your go-to.
It’s important to have a go-to book or chapter in the bible, so that when you don’t know what to read and you don’t hear any specific things, you can just go to your go-to.
My go to is usually Psalms, I will keep reading until the words of praise become my own. This is truly a great key!
Have fun with it.
It’s not about rules or reading certain amounts of chapters. It’s about relationship with Jesus and knowing Him. Jefferson and Alyssa Bethke say, “don’t ask, did I read enough today, ask yourself did I hide His word in my heart today?” He is a loving, kind God who is eager to impart to you, to pour out His presence, joy, peace on you! Ju
The Bible is an amazing resource, but more than that, it is His living breathing word. It is full of Him. Full of His goodness throughout history. Full of revelation from Him, Truth and wisdom. Let’s love the Bible again!
