Stop, Just Trust.

Trust. What a word. Too often we see trust as a Christian bookshop wall decal word. Something that goes on a mug or just a word that is “nice” and gets thrown all over. Too often we lose the true raw meaning of trust, but we really shouldn’t.

What does it actually mean to trust?

Definition of Trust:

“An assured reliance on the character, ability, strength, or truth of someone or something.”

Trust is definite, assured, confidence in the strength, ability, power, authority of the one whose thoughts are higher than yours and whose ways are greater than yours.

Why is Trust SO important and vital?

We all have our trust in something, so if it’s not in God it is most likely in ourselves. What you trust is what you rely on. What you rely on, is what you give control to. If our trust is in ourselves, in our abilities, our strengths, our ways, our plans, we are seeing everything as being up to us. Wether we realise it or not.

“What you trust is what you rely on, what you rely on is what you give control to.”

I don’t know about you, but I do not want to be in control. Even though sometimes I think I do, it never goes well when I try to be in control. It’s hard, stressful, exhausting and just plain weird..

5 Trust in the LORD with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding;
6 in all your ways submit to Him, and He will make your paths straight.

– Proverbs 3:5-6

To trust the Lord with all our hearts is to trust him with everything inside of us, meaning to give up every last tiny bit of control. Not saying, “I trust you, but I will hold on to this piece still as a back up plan” or “I trust you as long as you explain exactly what you are doing & why you are doing it.” Our trust should not be based off our understanding or anything to do with us really. To experience the kind of peace that comes with trust, that is outside of our understanding requires, giving up our “right” to understand.

“We need to give up our right to understand everything & just trust.”

We just need to simply trust.

Stop trying to understand. Stop trying to figure everything out.

Distrust is only doing yourself a disservice. If you think it’s all up to you, you will carry the weight of figuring everything out. Trusting Jesus is the greatest thing. You may experience some discomfort in the process of letting go, but letting go and trusting is the most freeing thing that you will ever do! It’s a gift!

“Distrust is only doing yourself a disservice.”

We get to trust Him, because He is trustworthy, When we know He loves us and we know His character it’s easy to trust. We know that He wants to take all weight off our shoulders and we know He has the most amazing plans for our lives and His thoughts are higher than ours. It is easy to trust when we align our hearts with Truth, Himself.

“When we know His character, it’s easy to trust.”

Why would we want to be in control anyway? We will never be strong enough, good enough, capable enough or talented enough… The good news is, HE IS. We get to lean into Him and He promises to carry us, lead us and make every path straight!

Let’s give up our right to understand, our right to control, our right to have to know everything in order to trust and obey. Let’s just trust.

His plans are so good! His promises are yes and amen.

Let Him carry you, lead you and let every weight fall to the ground.

I believe God is inviting you into a deeper season of deep, raw trust! It starts with believing the truth and then surrendering our own control. This surrender and trust will push past every single one of your comfort zones, but it will be the most freeing beautiful thing ever.

Let go, surrender, trust. Be free!
