The Wonder In It All
WONDER
Defintion:
(Noun)
A feeling of amazement and admiration, caused by something beautiful, remarkable, or unfamiliar.
(Verb)
A desire to know something; feel curious.
Wonder; I feel like everywhere I turn lately I have been seeing this word. I have always loved ‘wonder,’ because it seems to spark a sense of delight and dreaminess about something, and why would I not love that. Seeing it all the more often though has caused me to ‘wonder’ what it really means to live in wonder and to think more deeply about it.
Here are some of my thoughts on WONDER:
We are all called to live in wonder, because to stand in wonder, is to be amazed, to admire beauty, which all leads to the creator of the wonders. To stand in wonder is to worship. Beauty provokes a sense of wonder and wonder provokes worship. We are all worshippers and called to worship Him with every breath.
“BEAUTY PROVOKES WONDER AND WONDER PROVOKES WORSHIP.”
That moment when you see beauty, wether it be with the natural eye or with the eyes of your heart, that moment is always an invitation to worship. My encouragement to you is to not ignore it when you feel a sense of wonder, but dive deeper into it, and take the wonder and dive into the creator who made all beauty.
Wonder is found in beauty, and beauty is found in many, many ways such as, a landscape, a home, a sermon or quote, a person, a place, an act of kindness, love of a family, a song, someone being passionate about something, encouraging words, food, art, time doing something you love, being with someone you love, the way the light shines softly at dusk, someones smile or a comforting hug. This is just a small list of possibilities and places you will find beauty, that can provoke a sense of wonder in you.
When you admire beauty, dive into it, dive into the wonder and awe of who God is. Beauty is God’s and beauty was created to provoke worship and wonder is worship. Many people admire beauty and then they feel a sense of wonder, but they put the sense of wonder in the ‘thing,’ which basically means they are then worshipping the beauty rather than the creator of all beauty.
Beauty of any kind solely exists because of God’s goodness, His creativity, and because He is colour, light and life. it is a Reflection of who He is. Beauty is not a distraction from your worship of God, it is a doorway to it. He places beauty all around us so that we can know His nature, and to give us continual invitations to worship as we see Him in something.
When you don’t feel wonder or see beauty, take the second definition, which is ‘to be curious and desire to know something.’Just your search of His beauty and desire for more of Him, is to be in wonder. The desire to see Him and know Him, is wonder and that is worship. As you begin to seek out beauty, you will find it.
“Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” – Matthew 7:7
Let’s live in awe and wonder of Him. Let our eyes (or the eyes of our hearts) be open and fully aware of when we see beauty. May we dive into the wonder of it all. Let our wonder be worship as we breathe in His goodness and admire completely just how good He is.
