Will You Build A House For Me?

I’ve recently been doing this study that God put on my heart, of all the times that God spoke to people in the Old Testament. It’s only been a week and I’ve found it to be so so amazing!

I came across these verses the other day:

” Go and tell my servant David, thus says the Lord: would you build a house for me to dwell in?”

– 2 Samuel 7:5 (NKJV)

God actually asked David, “Would you build a house for me? I have been without one for a long time. Will you make a place for me? I want somewhere to dwell.” Woah!! Doesn’t that just wreck you in a beautiful, humbling way? God Himself was asking David to build a house for Him. Creator, builder, designer of the universe was asking David, a shepherd boy turned giant slayer, turned King (All because of God btw) to build Him a house.

“Will you build a house for Me?”

It’s beautiful, it’s humbling and it’s heartbreaking. It’s heartbreaking that noone had built Him a house and He had to ask. It’s beautiful that he trsusted David to build Him a house. It’s humbling how humble God is to ask someone else to build Him a house. His beauty is never ending!!

What is our response to God when He asks us this? How many times have we refused to make space for Him? How many times has God asked us to build His house, and we’ve replied, “maybe later?” How often have we treated God like a guest in the home of our hearts, and not exactly even been very good at looking after our guest. The problem is He isn’t meant to be a guest. It’s His house. We are His house. We are His vessel. We are His very dwelling place. He is asking us to build His house.

“We are His house. We are His vessel. We are His very dwelling place.”

How often have we filled up space in our lives with meaningless, unfulfilling things instead of creating a place for Him to be Him? It’s just something for you to think about with God.

Will we make a place for Him in our lives? More than just a little place in the corner. Will we see ourselves as the place of which He abides? Will we make room for Him? Will we honour Him? Will we Honour His presence? He longs to dwell within us. WOW!

Will we Honour His presence?

I don’t fully understand why He wants us to be His house. I don’t understand  why He would choose David to build a house for Him, when He could have just pointed a finger and built a mansion. I do know that He loves us a ridiculous amount and He desires to partner with us, because He is all about relationship. The amazing thing is, once we say yes, He builds our house. We cannot do it on our own strength, but God invites us to create a place; to make space for Him and His strength is what will build the house anyway. He is so so kind!! We get to lean on His strength, the kind of strength that makes us look really good, but it’s all Him anyway.

If we don’t see ourselves as a worthy place for a King to dwell, we will kick Him out of the very place He is yearning to be. We are His house, We are His vessel, we are His beloved & He is asking us, will you build a house for me?

“We are His house. He picks us. He picks you. He picks me.”

I don’t want to refuse Him, when He asks me to make a place or make space for Him. I don’t want to keep Him in a corner. I want to say yes, even if I don’t understand. I want to give Him an abundance of space in my life, heart and in everything I do, because I know that’s what He wants & I want Him!

What a privilege for God to ask David to build Him a house! What a privilege for Him to want to dwell with us. What a privilege to be the home of a King! What a privilege to be His dwelling place! What a privilege to be the vessel of His presence!

“What a privilege for God to ask us to build His house?”

Let’s make room for Him.

“Fill your vessel Lord.”
