You Split The Sea, So I Could Walk Right Through It.
‘No Longer Slaves’ by Jonathan David and Melissa Helser is one of my favourite songs. It is a powerful anthem of declaring that we are children of God, so therefore we are not slaves to fear. We do not serve fear, obey fear, etc. It’s amazing!
After the verses and chorus, the music slows down, the rhythm is steady & the ‘ooh’s’ start to rise. Then there is a crash & the powerful lyrics, “you split the sea, so I could walk right through it, my fears were drowned in perfect love, you rescued me and I will stand and sing, I am a child of God” are released. It’s safe to say that whenever it gets to the bridge of this song in a worship set every heart engages.
Let’s get back to that crashing-breakthrough line, “You split the sea so I could, walk right through it..” Woah! Of course, it is referring to the time when Moses led the Israelites out of Egypt and they were fleeing from Pharaoh, but they were trapped with the sea on one side and the Egyptians on the other. What to do..? What to do..?
Then Moses raised his hand over the sea, and the LORD opened up a path through the water with a strong east wind. The wind blew all that night, turning the seabed into dry land. – Exodus 14:21 NLT
Imagine if Moses prayed and God split the sea, but they all just stood there in shock and awe of what had just happened… What if they didn’t move? What if they just started taking photos of it & writing letters about what had happened? Even though, that would of all been coming from a good place of thankfulness and wonder. What if they let fear overtake them? What if they let fear stop them in their tracks, with lying thoughts like, “what if the sea comes down on us?” “What if it stays open and the Egyptians follow us in?” “What if?” “What if?” “What if?”
What breakthrough are you praying and believing for?
I want you to ask yourself and pray if there is something God has opened in your life for you to walk through.. If there is a sea, He has split for you to walk through.
He splits the sea, SO WE COULD WALK RIGHT THROUGH IT.
Not so we can go, “wow, look at that.”
Don’t hear me wrong.. I am not saying it’s not important to be thankful & amazed at the goodness of God. I’m saying if God has opened a sea, walk through it. Don’t let fear of what you don’t know stop you. Don’t listen to lying thoughts… Just trust Him.
Don’t give in to fear. You may just be making history.
Signs and wonders are supposed to point us to Jesus.. Don’t get stuck on the sign & forget to walk through the sea.. Say “thank you Lord,” and follow Him.
He is creating a path for you. Listen to His voice. Follow Him though the sea.
God’s bringing breakthroughs into your life, but sometimes He asks us to take a step out and walk through that sea, He just split. An action is required.
Just like when Jesus asked Peter to step out of the boat and walk to Him on the water.
He could have picked him up and placed him on the water, but He asked him to take a step out and come to Him and even when he started sinking, (which was only because he took his eyes off of the lord) Jesus just reached out His hand and lifted Peter up.
This could be applied to so much in your life…
So basically, when God splits the sea, it’s for you to walk through… When He calls you out of the boat, go to Him. Step out and walk. You never know when your step of faith and step of courage is leading an entire generation into their promised land.
The Lord goes before you, follow Him, be thankful and rejoice.
